“Mother’s Day”

The month of May is busy each year
With birthdays, holidays and the special day for mothers who are so dear.
AP exams were the week of Mothers Day,
Which meant I had no time to waste away.
I had to buy a present.
But I had to put much thought into it so that it wouldn't be unpleasant.
My sisters and I did not know what to buy.
What did my mother not have that will make her as cheerful as the blue sky?
I called my aunt and she told me how to solve my situation.
She suggested I buy my mother a package for a getaway vacation
As a family we decided to send her off to the Bahamas,
Hoping the shocking news won’t give her a trauma.
When the day came and we gave her the surprise
Inside the card was a song as brightening as the sunrise.
“What are the songs the mother sings?
Of birds and flowers and pretty things;
Baby lies in her arms and spies
All his world in the mother's eyes”.

“Senioritis at its Finest”

Senioritis is the ebbing of motivation and effort by seniors as evidenced by tardiness, absences, and lower grades.
It had not hit me until the time for AP exams arrived, which served as blockades.
And so the teachers began reviewing for the big day,
But I was lacking motivation; therefore I started to begin to steer away.
After taking a practice exam and realizing that I was not going to pass,
I began to take the practice sessions seriously by paying careful attention in class.
Scoring a “4” or “5” was the only option.
Therefore I decided to study intensely with a lot of caution.
Asking questions and studying for hours did pay off,
When on May 8th and 13th I took the exams which were not so tough.
AP Calc BC was the first exam
It was surprisingly not as hard as making a grand slam.
But AP Bio was the opposite,
And for some reason there were questions about making a deposit.
Thankfully, AP exams are all done,
And for the seniors who are doing senior service, summer has officially begun!!

“Which One?”

We attend high school with hopes of enrolling to college,
But with picking the right school comes with a lot of knowledge.
They said “follow your heart and go somewhere that feels like home”,
However that task is as hard as crawling to Rome.
I was stuck between Rutgers University and the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
One was near, the other far; one reasonable, the other as high as Nasa.
When the day to make the final decision was near,
I went on campus tours with other peers.
Rutgers not only gave me a better scholarship, but felt more “homey”.
And so I enrolled, hoping that in 4 years I will receive a college degree.
Excited, I told my friends, teachers and family members all about it
With anticipation that they would wish me the best without throwing a fit
Picking a university was such a difficult task
But it became easy when all my questions became unmasked.
I am now a Scarlet Knight!

"The Stress Level Keeps Rising"

They said senior year was going to be a breeze,
But that is all false, senior year end please!
Right when I thought I could finally take a break,
The process of applying to scholarships gave me a headache.
There are thousands of scholarships one can apply for,
With videos, essays, questions, and much more.
But I was lost, how do I choose a scholarship and apply?
And so I immediately asked Mrs.Bilali without being shy.
She introduced me to Fastweb, the website that solved my problem;
Where I browsed through thousands of scholarships with a lot of freedom.
I applied to more than I can count,
Hoping to win and receive a large amount.
There is no way of knowing if I am the chosen one,
I just need to sit back and wait a ton.

I’ll let you know in June if I won!

“The French Kiss Sale”

As Valentine’s Day approaches, the National French Honor Society begins to get busy
To prepare for the annual “Kiss Sale” that is not very cheesy.
So the selling begins and we aim to sell more than we can count,
But not by giving our dear friends discounts.
The members did a good job selling the kisses;
500 was our number which showed that we were ambitious.
When the time came to start making them and buying the chocolate
All the members ran away as if there were a rocket.
I did not know what to do… As president I started to go crazy!
How was I supposed to make 500 kisses all by myself without transforming into a daisy?
So I decided to call a meeting where I assigned everyone a specific task.
This fixed my problem! I was not the one doing it all at last.
Each person was in charge of making 20 kisses,
And I before I knew it they were all completed in sixes.
Then on Valentine’s Day when we passed the kisses all out
Seeing smiles on everyone’s faces, that is what hard work is all about.

"The Most Grueling Time of Year"

Each year around the same time we are bombarded with work
In preparation for the big midterm exams that we cannot shirk.
Last week, my teacher gave out the long and detailed AP Biology study guide,
So I went home to write everything out which was the downside.
My stress level immediately began to rise,
But I did not allow my eyes to let out some cries.
When the day came to start studying, I did not know where to start.
I was confused with all that needs to be learned; so I went to get help from my teacher who is very smart.
He helped me in organizing all the material and explained everything thoroughly.
This greatly benefited me while I was studying very carefully.
The day of the exam soon arrived and thank God I was ready.
I entered Mr.Deveraux's room and answered the questions that I knew already.
Then came the time for the hard, grueling, lengthy questions,
I did my best, and then left the exam room with no expression.
Hoping that when the day comes when we get our grades back
I won't feel like I had just suffered a heart attack.

“Finding the Perfect Present”

It’s that time of the year again,
When people start to build snow angels and “Frosty the Snowman”
The malls get filled with people buying toys,
Which starts the season filled with holiday joys.
It was my turn to drive through the traffic and do some holiday spending.
Buying presents for all those who will be attending.
Choosing the perfect gift for my mother was not very easy.
The stores were filled with accessories that she wouldn’t like cause they were cheesy.
Soon enough I realized I was just walking in circles with no idea,
So I decided to call my Aunt Sophia.
After much pleading, she finally gave me an idea or four.
My problem was solved so I went to the Apple Store,
To buy a white iPad
From an Apple Genius named Brad!
